A Complete Travel Guide for Your Journey to Arhanta Yoga Ashram India

(Updated - August 2022)

Are you planning to come to the Arhanta Yoga ashram in India to follow your yoga teacher training?

Traveling and organizing your journey to India would possibly appear to be a big step to take, but with proper information it is very simple. You will find all the necessary information below that shows you the best way to plan your travel, including the information you need for a visa and the way to travel safely.

Plan Your Journey

Travelling to the ashram is very simple. We recommend you to fly to New Delhi airport (airport code - DEL).

  • Return flights from Europe to Delhi start from Euros 600 onwards (you can compare prices and flights at skyscanner.com or kayak.com).
  • From New Delhi you can take a domestic flight to Khajuraho (airport code - HJR). The flight duration is 1hr 20min and it usually costs around Euros 50 (www.spicejet.com) for one way.

When you reach the Khajuraho airport, you will be picked up by our team and brought to the ashram. We provide complementary pickup on the first day of the course.

How to book your international flight to Delhi?

For booking international flights to and from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi you may check www.kayak.com or skyscanner.com

How to book your domestic flight to Khajuraho?

For domestic flights (flights in India) we recommend https://www.ixigo.com/flights or https://flights.agoda.com/

For example: Traveling from Berlin to Khajuraho

Check www.skyscanner.com or www.kayak.com for flights from Berlin to New Delhi and check  https://flights.agoda.com/ or https://www.spicejet.com/ for the flights from New Delhi to Khajuraho.

Please keep in mind, that on arrival at Delhi airport, you need to pass immigration, collect baggage, go to domestic terminal and check-in again for your domestic flight. So keep at least 3-4 hours between your arrival and departure at Delhi Airport.

How to travel to Khajuraho by train?

There are daily trains to Khajuraho from New Delhi, Agra, Varanasi, Jhansi and many other major cities. The train tickets can be booked online at: https://www.ixigo.com/trains

How to travel to Khajuraho by bus?

The nearest bus station to the yoga ashram is the Khajuraho bus station. There are daily buses to Khajuraho from all major cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Agra, Jhansi, Gwalior etc.

How to reach to the yoga ashram from Khajuraho airport, train/bus station?

Once you have reached Khajuraho at the airport or the train or bus station, it is possible to take a taxi or an auto rickshaw straight to the ashram.

Note: We provide complimentary pick up on the first day of the course and drop-off on the last day for all students.

Is there someone who can help me with my travel arrangements in India?

Yes, we have a recommended travel agent in India. For assistance in booking your flights/trains please contact the office..

Would you recommend traveling together?

A lot of people, especially those who travel to India for the first time, feel more confident and secure when they travel with a group instead of traveling alone. Our Facebook page is a great way to reach out to people attending the same training as you are. Some people share the entire journey with someone coming from the same country, similarly many people meet up in New Delhi and travel together from there to Khajuraho. To exchange information, post ideas and requirements or make travel plans together with other future students, visit our Facebook event page.

How much does the journey cost?

It really depends, of course, on where you are traveling from. When we are booking flights for our teachers, we have seen that we almost end up spending between 600 and 800 euros for travel and return (for instance, from Amsterdam to Khajuraho and back).

Preparing Your Papers

Visa and Insurance

You will need a visa for traveling to India and there are different options to choose from. If you come to India for the Teacher Training Course, kindly note that you should travel on a tourist visa. You can choose from different kinds of visas, we recommend:

Covid-19 Travel Requirements: Updated August 2022

India is now considered a low risk country, therefore travel restrictions in relation to Covid-19 are relaxed. The travel requirements for international travelers arriving in India are as follows:

  1. Travelers must submit the self-declaration form on the online Air Suvidha portal.
  2. Travelers must mention the date of vaccination or a PCR test conducted, while filling the self-declaration form.
  3. Travelers must carry a certificate of completing *full primary vaccination schedule of COVID-19 vaccination OR carry the negative report of COVID-19 RT-PCR test conducted not more than 72 hours prior to arriving in India.

Tourist visa on arrival (E-Visa):

Most international travelers coming to India need a valid visa.

We recommend you to take a 'Tourist E-Visa'.

This is the easiest option. The E-visa is valid for 30 days. You can apply for this visa entirely online, avoiding the need to visit to the Indian embassy or send in your passport. When you are applying for a visa, you can state the purpose as 'tourist' if you plan some travel as well or as 'short yoga course,' which was a recent addition to the list of options.

Important: E-visa has to be applied at least four days in advance to arrival date!

Nationalities which are eligible for the E-Visa are:
Andorra, Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Argentina, Armenia, Aruba, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Cayman Island, Chile, China, China- SAR Hong Kong, China- SAR Macau, Colombia, Cook Islands, Costa Rica, Cuba, Djibouti, Dominica, Dominican Republic, East Timor, Ecuador, El Salvador, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Kiribati, Laos, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Malaysia, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Mexico, Micronesia, Monaco, Mongolia, Montenegro, Montserrat, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nauru, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Niue Island, Norway, Oman, Palau, Palestine, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Republic of Macedonia, Russia, Saint Christopher and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Samoa, Seychelles, Singapore, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, Spain, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Sweden, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand, Tonga, Turks & Caicos Island, Tuvalu, UAE, Ukraine, USA, Uruguay, Vanuatu, Vatican City-Holy See, Venezuela, Vietnam.

Regular tourist visa:

Regular tourist visas are usually valid for either three or six months, So they are ideal if you plan to stay in India for a longer period. You can mention “traveling”, "sightseeing", "yoga retreat", or "recreation" as the purpose of visiting India in the application form. Please avoid the term “study” in your visa application as that might result in the embassy rejecting your regular tourist visa application and asking you to apply for a "Student visa".

For more information about a tourist visa visit: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/

Why not apply for a student visa?

It is not required to apply for 'Student Visa' for short term yoga courses. Do not apply for a student visa if you are coming to attend our Yoga teacher training.

A student visa is only available for students attending official universities or colleges. We will not be able to provide you with the necessary documents for a student visa application because yoga ashrams are not considered as official colleges. If your student visa gets rejected, not only will your visa application get rejected, you might not even be allowed to apply for a tourist visa after that.

Which reference address can I use for the visa application form?

An address must be provided on the visa application form. You can give following address:

Address : Village Bansarae near Khajuraho, P.O. Ontwa Purva, District Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, India

Contact person: Mr. Pramod Jain / Contact number: + 91 7011723320

We also recommend to keep this information with you (address and phone number), as sometimes it is asked at passport control upon entering India.

What should you know about insurance?

Please carry sufficient documents of medical insurance, which has coverage in India. Optionally you can also purchase a travel insurance, in case you miss your flight or you need to cancel your journey due to medical or personal emergencies.

Is it safe to travel to India on my own?

Yes, travelling to our ashram in India on your own is safe if you plan ahead of time and follow simple safety precautions .

We always recommend to use your common sense while traveling to and from the ashram, don’t flaunt your wealth, don’t walk- down a dark alley at night, don’t take off with strangers. Please keep in mind that you are visiting a different country with a different culture and standards, therefore you will need to adjust.

We recommend to plan for your trip well prepared, which means keeping important information (address and phone number) with you. We recommend booking an international chain hotel in advance and with airport pick up and drop off provided by the hotel for females travelling alone.

What should you know about vaccinations?

Please check with your physician to see what immunization he or she advises. The Arhanta Yoga Ashram, on the other hand, is not located in a Malaria prone region. In addition, the Arhanta Yoga teacher training’s are held during the winter months which, in general, is not the season for malaria mosquitoes.

What is all included in the course fees?

The course fees include accommodation, food – three meals a day – and herbal tea every night during the whole month. The course fees also cover all tuition and study materials. Costs that aren’t included in the package are the traveling costs, however we do provide complementary group pick-up and drop-off on the first and last day of the course. There is a shop in the ashram where you can buy toiletries,  yoga mats, yoga cushions, writing books, pens, toilet paper, etc.

What are the sightseeing options?

Khajuraho is a great place for sightseeing. The temples in Khajuraho are recognized as one of UNESCO’s world heritages. For more information about Khajuraho, see the page sightseeing in Khajuraho.
